BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Boston University women's lacrosse team lost an overtime thriller to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at Frank Banko Field on Saturday.
The Terriers (7-5, 2-3 PL) led from 14:21 of the first quarter until there were 55 seconds remaining in regulation, but the Mountain Hawks (4-7, 1-4 PL) always stayed within four goals and had enough firepower to overcome BU in overtime.
BU had a three-goal lead with 4:15 remaining before Lehigh turned around three goals in the final 3:19 to tie the game.
The Terriers got out to a 5-2 lead before Lehigh trimmed it to 7-6 BU entering the halftime break. BU controlled the draw by a 12-3 margin at the half, but had turned it over 12 times and only had 11 shots on target of its 21 total attempts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Avery Jones scored the first goal of the game, beating the Lehigh keeper on a free position effort.
- That goal was followed up by a behind-the-back effort from Amonte off a pass from junior Elle Stevenson to make it 2-0.
- The Mountain Hawks answered with a free position goal, but then sophomore Reilly Walsh was fed a pass from Stevenson in transition, and Walsh finished off the play with her fourth goal of the season with 9:55 to play in the first.
- Lehigh added another free position goal with 5:13 left in the frame, cutting BU's advantage to just 3-2 entering the second quarter.
- Tessa Geddes started the scoring for BU in the second quarter, taking in a high pass and knifing through two defenders before tallying her 18th goal of the year.
- Tillier added a goal with 11:31 to go in the second, as she swung around the 8-meter mark and bounced home her first goal of the game.
- Lehigh responded with two goals of its own, cutting the BU lead to 5-4.
- Then Stevenson responded with two goals in the span of 32 seconds to expand the lead back to 7-4.
- The Mountain Hawks had two more goals up their sleeve before the half, however, and BU led 7-6 entering the break.
- BU once again opened the scoring in the third, with Jones finding the back of the net on another free position attempt.
- Lehigh responded with a free position goal of its own with 12:27 to play.
- After over six minutes of scoreless play, graduate student Kendall Sims broke through while up a player off an assist from Geddes at 6:16.
- Amonte got her second of the game just 58 seconds after Sims' goal and made it 10-7 BU.
- The teams traded goals once more in the third, as Lehigh scored with 5:06 left before Amonte completed her hat trick off a Geddes assist with 2:43 to play in the quarter.
- BU's Jayne Feeney, who left the loss against Navy with an injury, scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter 56 seconds in.
- Then the Mountain Hawks went on a three-goal run to make it 12-11 BU with 7:15 to play.
- BU pushed ahead with a Walsh free position goal with 5:55 to play, then Geddes beat the shot clock off a pass from junior Leah Hodgins with 4:15 to play, extending BU's lead to 14-11.
- The Mountain Hawks refused to quit and scored three times in the final 3:19 to tie the game at 14-14.
- Lehigh had a chance to win it in regulation, but Aiosa held strong on a free position shot with 17 seconds to play from the game's highest scorer, Molly Snow.
- In overtime, there were just nine seconds remaining in the frame when Lehigh put the Terriers away.
NOTES
- BU outshot the Mountain Hawks 35-33.
- The Terriers also outdrew Lehigh, 20-13, but the Mountain Hawks outdrew BU 10-8 after halftime.
- After five straight games with 15 or fewer turnovers, the Terriers turned the ball over 18 times compared to the Mountain Hawks' 16.
- The Terriers shot 4-of-8 on free positions.
- Amonte finished with a hat trick, increasing her season total to 30 goals. She is the first Terrier to score 30 goals in a season since 2023 and the second this decade.
- Geddes, Jones and Walsh all scored two goals each.
- Geddes grabbed eight draw controls, increasing her career total to 129. The sophomore is five away from entering BU's top 10 list in draw controls.
- On top of their two goals each, Stevenson and Geddes also tallied two assists each, tying for the team lead in points.
- Geddes set a new career high in assists and Stevenson tied her career high.

- The team will honor its seniors with an on-field ceremony prior to the game.
