WEST POINT, N.Y. - The No. 14/15 Boston University men's lacrosse team fell to Colgate, 17-10, in the 2025 Patriot League championship game on Sunday at Army West Point's Michie Stadium.
Making its second straight appearance in the Patriot League title game, BU (11-5) fell behind by four at halftime and was unable to get back into the game in the second half as Colgate (10-7) pulled away for the victory.
Junior Jimmy Kohr led the Terriers offensively with two goals and three assists while freshman Timothy Shannehan tallied two goals and added two assists for a four-point day. Senior Jimmy O'Connell collected two goals and freshman Ben Morris notched one goal and one assist.
Seven different Terriers in total found the back of the net; seniors Brenden Kelly and Zach Travaglini both scored, as did freshman Andrew Pape. Sophomore Tyler Fox chipped in an assist as well.
Junior Connor Kehm had one caused turnover and five ground balls while sophomore Logan Styles forced two Colgate giveaways and added a ground ball.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a defensive battle for the opening half of the first quarter, Colgate broke through with 7:07 on the clock to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Raiders then doubled their lead after beating the 10-man ride with a long shot that went wide but right into the stick of a Colgate attackman, who quickly scored into the vacant cage.
- After the Raiders took a 3-0 lead, Morris used a nifty toe drag to create space and score to make it a 3-1 game.
- Colgate answered with another goal, however, to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.
- Jack Turner opened the scoring in the second quarter to give Colgate a 5-1 lead with 9:05 on the clock.
- BU responded out of a timeout with a Shannehan goal to cut the deficit to 5-2.
- The Terriers cut the lead to 5-3 on a ridiculous sequence. Colgate goalie Matt LaCombe cleared the ball across midfield and had thoughts of scoring, but as he tried to shoot, Styles checked his stick from behind and Kehm picked up the loose ball. BU was able to transition the ball up field and Kohr eventually scored with LaCombe still out of the cage.
- Kohr then made it 5-4 just 43 seconds later with a laser of a shot, but Colgate ended the run with 3:14 left in the first half and added two more goals to take an 8-4 lead into halftime.
- O'Connell opened the third quarter with a goal to cut the Colgate lead to 8-5, but the Raiders responded with four quick goals to grab a 12-5 lead with 8:43 left in the frame.
- Pape ended the Colgate run with 8:00 left in the third quarter, but the Raiders added to their advantage and took a 15-6 lead into the final 15 minutes.
- Kelly and Shannehan both found the back of the net in a 24-second span to cut the Colgate lead to 15-8 with 11:31 to play.
- Travaglini followed with a goal of his own to make it 15-9 with 9:07 on the clock.
- Colgate ended the Terrier run with 7:19 left on a goal into an open net to take a 16-9 lead.
- O'Connell's second of the day at the left post made it 16-10, but the Raiders responded again to take a 17-10 lead and that's how the game ended.
