
Eichel, McAvoy, Tkachuk Among First Six Players Named to 2026 U.S. Olympic Men's Hockey Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Former Boston University men's ice hockey standouts Jack Eichel, Charlie McAvoy and Brady Tkachuk were among the first six players named to the 2026 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, USA Hockey announced on Monday.
All three players will be first-time Olympians. The trio represented the United States at the 4 Nations Face-Off last February and have all skated for Team USA at World Juniors, Men's Worlds and U18 Worlds during their storied careers, combining for nine medals across the three tournaments. BU is the only school in the country to have multiple players named to any of the Olympic rosters, as each country revealed its first six players on Monday. In addition to the three players named to the roster, Terrier alumnus Mike Sullivan ('90) will serve as head coach.
Eichel, the 2015 Hobey Baker Award winner who is currently an alternate captain with the Vegas Golden Knights, had a career-high 94 points (28 goals, 66 assists) in 77 games this season and has averaged nearly a point per game in his career (608 points in 616 games). He led the Stanley Cup Playoffs with 26 points (six goals, 20 assists) in 22 games in 2023 to help Vegas win its first championship. The 28-year-old center had four assists in four games for the United States at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
McAvoy, a 2017 First Team All-American and alternate captain of the Boston Bruins, totaled 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 50 games this season and has 300 points (60 goals, 240 assists) in 504 games. He was a plus-1 in two games at the 4 Nations Face-Off before missing the final two games due to injury. The 27-year-old McAvoy has skated in the Stanley Cup Playoffs eight times, totaling 48 points and helping Boston reach the 2019 Cup Final.
Tkachuk, captain of the Ottawa Senators, has 404 points (191 goals, 213 assists) in 512 games and is second in the NHL with 1,759 hits since entering the league in the 2018-19 season. The 25-year-old had 55 points (29 goals, 26 assists) in 72 games this season and had four goals in six games during his playoff debut as he helped lead Ottawa back to the postseason for the first time since 2017. Tkachuk had three goals in four games at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
