Greer, Rodrigues Win Stanley Cup with Florida Panthers

June 18, 2025

SUNRISE, Fla. - For the third straight year, a former Boston University men's ice hockey standout is a Stanley Cup champion, as Evan Rodrigues and A.J. Greer helped led the Florida Panthers to a 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday night.

Rodrigues, who won the Cup with Florida last season, joins Nick Bonino and Mike Sullivan as Terriers to win back-to-back Cups as a player or head coach; Bonino and Sullivan won with Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, current Terrier head coach Jay Pandolfo won two Cups with New Jersey (2000, 2003) and Scott Young claimed the Cup with Pittsburgh (1991) and Colorado (1996). BU was the only school to boast two Cup-winning players this season and was one of just two schools to have at least one former skater appear in the Cup Final.

Greer became the 13th Terrier to hoist the Cup as either a player or a head coach. In addition, not only is this first time that two Terriers skated on the same Cup-winning team, but Greer and Rodrigues are also the first Terrier teammates to win the Cup together, as they were both on the 2014-15 BU squad that won the Beanpot and claimed both the Hockey East regular-season and tournament titles. This was the third straight year that a former Terrier player lifted the Cup, as Jack Eichel, who also played with Greer and Rodrigues on that 2014-15 team, led the Vegas Golden Knights to the 2023 championship.

Both Greer and Rodrigues were impact players for the Panthers all season. Greer played a career-best 81 of 82 regular-season games in his first year with Florida, setting career highs in goals (6), assists (11) and points (17). In his first appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Greer scored two goals and had one assist for three points in 16 games. Rodrigues played in all 82 regular-season tilts for Florida, scoring 15 goals and adding 17 assists for 32 points. In 21 postseason games, Rodrigues totaled two goals and had 13 assists for 15 points.

In addition to Rodrigues and Greer lifting the Cup as players, former Terrier Paul Fenton was part of the Panthers' Cup-winning staff for the second straight season as a senior advisor to Florida general manager Bill Zito.
