Boumedienne Selected 28th Overall by Winnipeg Jets on Opening Night of 2025 NHL Draft

June 27, 2025

LOS ANGELES - Rising sophomore Sascha Boumedienne of the Boston University men's ice hockey team was selected 28th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the opening round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft on Friday night at L.A. Live's Peacock Theater.

Boumedienne became the 27th Terrier to be chosen in the first round of the NHL Draft and the 11th Terrier to be taken in the opening round after spending the previous season at BU. He is the second Terrier to be selected in the first round by a Winnipeg franchise, as the original Jets took Keith Tkachuk with the 19th pick in the 1990 NHL Draft.

BU has boasted 17 first-round picks since 2015, including five over the past three years. This is the 12th straight year that a Terrier has been selected in the NHL Draft.

The youngest defenseman in college hockey last season, Boumedienne appeared in all 40 games, totaling three goals and 10 assists for 13 points to help lead BU to the national title game. After playing major minutes for the Terriers during their run to the Frozen Four, Boumedienne then shined for Sweden at the IIHF U18 Men's World Championship, leading his country to a silver medal. He was selected as the tournament's Best Defenseman after he broke Terrier teammate Cole Hutson's record for points by a defenseman at a World U18 Championship with 14 points (1g, 13a) in seven games, leading all players in assists.

Several future Terriers are expected to hear their names called on day two of the NHL Draft, which begins at 12 p.m. ET on NHL Network and ESPN+.
