HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pape got BU on the board first just 1:03 into the proceedings after he dodged past his defender.
- AJ Marsh beat the 10-man ride 22 seconds later to tie the game and then Jack Ponzio scored at 11:53 to give Navy a 2-1 lead.
- Kohr evened the score at 10:39 when he picked up a rebound and converted the second chance.
- Fox then regained the Terriers' lead just 1:03 later when he finished a feed from Forte.
- The two teammates then reversed roles to make it 4-2 at 4:19 when Fox found Forte for the freshman's 12th goal of the year.
- Kohe' second of the day less than a minute later pushed the lead to 5-2, but Navy ended the quarter with a goal to make it 5-3.
- Pape's second of the day opened the scoring in the second quarter and then Fox made it 7-3 off another assist from Forte. Dan Daly (15 saves) thought he stopped the ball but the referee ruled it crossed the line.
- Jack Flaherty's man-up goal at 4:54 sparked a 3-0 run to end the first half, with William Goers extending that to a 4-0 run at 11;51 of the third quarter to tie the game at 7-7.
- That was the last time the game was tied, as Huntley restored the Terriers' advantage 59 seconds after Goers' goal. Phillips made a save and sophomore Murphy McLaughlin scooped up the ground ball. Kehm eventually found Varnerin with an outlet pass and the junior LSM raced over the restraining line before dishing to Shannehan. Lapina trailed the play and got the ball from Shannehan. With three defenders focused on Lapina, Huntley slipped to the crease and Lapina found his fellow d-middie with a pass that led to Huntley's go-ahead goal.
- The game stayed at 8-7 until Kohr notched a man-up goal to make it 9-7 heading into the final 15 minutes.
- Navy got within one with 12:59 to go and had a chance to tie the game, but Phillips and the Terrier defense held firm.
- McLaughlin caused a turnover that led to Varnerin's goal with 9:15 remaining. Shannehan picked up the loose ball and dished it to Varnerin, who rushed into the Navy box and uncorked a rocket past Daly.
- Rooney made it an 11-8 game 50 seconds later and then the Terriers all but iced the game with 7:38 remaining. Phillips made an outstanding point-blank stop on Aydan DiRocco. With BU still down a man, Kehm sent a beautiful outlet pass down the field to Hart, who sped towards goal and fired home his third goal of the season.
- Kohr then pushed the advantage to 13-8 with 6:31 on the clock.
- Ponzio made it 13-9 with 5:59 to go but a superb swim dodge and finish by Burns at 4:50 ended any hopes of a Navy comeback.
- The teams traded goals in the final three minutes to create the 15-10 final.
- In addition to going 6-of-8 on man-down chances, BU was 1-for-2 on EMOs.
- The Terriers outshot the Mids, 40-39.
- BU forced five failed Navy clears and caused 11 of the Mids' 19 turnovers.
- The Terriers won the ground ball battle, 32-29.
- Kohr extended his goal scoring streak to 21 games dating back to last year.
- Varnerin has scored a pole goal in four of the Terriers' five games this year, including all three home contests.
- This is the first time since 2023 that BU has opened up conference play with a victory.
- BU will hit the road next Saturday (March 7) when the Terriers face Lehigh.
- Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
