No. 20 Terriers Rally for 14-13 Overtime Win at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Sophomore Timothy Shannehan forced overtime with 2.7 seconds remaining in regulation and junior Tyler Fox scored just 23 seconds into the extra frame to lift the No. 20 Boston University men's lacrosse team to a thrilling 14-13 win at Lehigh on Saturday at Ulrich Sports Complex.
BU (4-2, 2-0 PL) trailed, 10-7, entering the fourth quarter and faced a three-goal deficit late in the fourth quarter before scoring four straight goals to take a 12-11 lead with 2:17 to play. Lehigh answered with two straight goals, including one with 15.4 seconds on the clock, to take a 13-12 lead. Sophomore Madden Murphy won the ensuing faceoff back to Fox, however, and Fox ran into the Lehigh box and flipped the ball to Shannehan at goal line extended. Shannehan then came around the cage and his diving effort beat Kasey Heath (16 saves) for the equalizer.
Murphy, who went 20-for-27 at the faceoff X and gathered seven a career-high seven ground balls, won the opening draw in overtime. Fox wasted no time, beating his short-stick matchup with an impressive individual effort before firing a close-range shot past Heath tio complete the comeback.
Shannehan scored a career-high six goals and added an assist to complete a seven-point afternoon. He put the team on his back in the fourth quarter, factoring on the Terriers' final five goals of regulation. His running mates at attack, senior Jimmy Kohr and freshman Peyton Forte, tallied two goals and one assist apiece. Fox and sophomore Ben Morris each had one goal and one assist while senior Tommy Garofalo and sophomore Andrew Pape each found the back of the net. Senior Sam Burns, sophomore Finn Lawrence and junior Logan Styles all had one assist apiece.
Senior Connor Kehm was terrific defensively, scooping up six ground balls and recording three caused turnovers. Senior Matt Freeman made his 2026 debut and had two caused turnovers in addition to two ground balls. Kohr added two caused turnovers as he was effective on the Terrier ride that forced seven failed clears. Sophomore Connor Phillips made 12 saves in the cage for BU.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team led by more than a goal in a back-and-forth first half.
- Lehigh got the scoring started just 1:53 into the contest, but Shannehan responded less than a minute later off a feed from Fox.
- Kohr tied things at 2-2 at 8:42 when he collected a Morris pass at the right post for the one-touch finish.
- After Finn Morgan made it 3-2 with 4:54 on the clock, Garofalo cashed in on the Terriers' first EMO of the day.
- Just 29 seconds later, Kohr gave BU its first lead of the first quarter.
- Luke Breslin tied the game with just eight seconds to play in the opening frame and then Jack Archer gave Lehigh a 5-4 advantage just 1:37 into the second quarter.
- Shannehan used a pick to get his hands free up top and hammer home his second goal of the day to even the score at 5-5 with 8:04 remaining in the first half.
- Morgan answered at 7:26, but Morris didn't need much time to respond again for BU as he scored with 6:10 to play.
- The score stayed at 6-6 for the remainder of the first half, but Lehigh opened the third quarter with three straight goals to take a 9-6 lead.
- Forte got one back for BU at 8:17, but Lehigh converted an EMO to take a 10-7 lead.
- Pape scored early in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to two.
- Lehigh scored on another EMO with 7:13 remaining but got whistled for taunting after the goal and the Terriers took advantage with a Forte goal to cut the deficit to 11-9.
- Shannehan then scored in transition to make it an 11-10 game with 6:00 to play.
- BU was whistled for a penalty after the goal but Phillips came up with a huge save to keep the Terriers within one.
- Shannehan then tied the game at 4:25 with a fantastic individual effort coming from X and shooting over his defender.
- BU took its first lead of the second half with 2:17 to play. Burns dodged down the right side and got it to Shannehan, who ran by his defender and uncorked a shot past Heath.
- The Mountain Hawks answered with two straight goals to take the lead, but Shannehan's last-second heroics set the stage for Fox's overtime winner.
- This was the second straight trip to Bethlehem for BU which needed overtime; Lehigh won that matchup in 2024.
- BU has since won its last four overtime games, with each of the last three coming on the road.
- The Terriers outshot Lehigh, 51-33.
- Both teams scored a pair of man-up goals.
- Kohr has scored a goal in 22 straight games dating back to last season.
- Shannehan now has 95 points (51g, 44a) in just 22 career games.
- BU will welcome No. 8/9 Army West Point to Nickerson Field on Saturday, March 14.
