Dwayne Killings joins second-year head coach Patrick Chambers[apos] staff as an assistant coach after spending the past year with the NBA D-League handling multiple responsibilities that included monitoring player development programs and providing updates on the players[apos] progress to the Vice President of Basketball Operations. He also scouted potential D-League players by attending NBA summer camps.
Before moving to New York, he served as assistant director of basketball operations at Temple University under head coach Fran Dunphy from 2006-09. While in Philadelphia, he helped direct the team to back-to-back Atlantic 10 titles and NCAA tournament appearances. He was responsible for assisting in the team[apos]s travel, scheduling, budget management and on-campus recruiting efforts. He also worked on advanced scouting reports and assisted the student-athletes in academic and athletic development.
A 2003 Hampton University graduate with a degree in sport management, Killings earned his first position within the world of basketball as a special assistant and video coordinator with the Charlotte Bobcats. Coordinating annual draft reports in preparation for the NBA draft, he assisted with the player development of players, such as Sean May and Emeka Okafor.
Killings has ties to the city of Boston through his work as a Basketball Education Specialist with Triad Trust, a non-profit organization based in the city that coordinates youth sports and arts programs that are used as platforms to educate and raise awareness about AIDS and HIV. Killings spent last July in the Nkomazi region of South Africa conducting coaching clinics with local organizers.
[quote]We are excited about Dwayne joining the BU family,[quote] Chambers said. [quote]He will have an immediate impact on this program and our student-athletes because of his unique background having worked in the NBA and at Temple University. Dwayne[apos]s character, integrity and enthusiasm will help guide the men off the floor and develop them as basketball players on the floor.[quote]
