Connor Oropeza

Connor Oropeza joined the Boston University cross country and track & field programs in the fall of 2017 as a volunteer assistant coach and was promoted to assistant coach in 2018.

During 2017 seasons, her first at BU, the men's cross country team placed third at the 2017 Patriot League Championship and sixth at the 2017 NCAA Northeast regionals.

During the 2018 season, her second at BU, the women's XC team placed fourth at the 2018 Patriot League Championships. Oropeza helped coach freshman Jessica Kellar to PL Rookie of the Meet honors after a 5th place finish and Corrine Batsu to a 15th place finish, which was an impressive 37 spot improvement over the previous year. 

Also during the 2018 season, Oropeza helped coach the men's XC team to a second-place finish at Patriot League Championships, with four Terriers placing in the top 10 and earn All-Patriot League honors.

During the 2018-19 indoor track & field season, Oropeza helped coach the women's team to a third place finish at the Patriot League Championships, as Abigail Gugel won gold in the women's 5000m and bronze in 3000m. On the men's side, Oropeza helped coach Johnny Kemps to a bronze-medal finish in the men's mile and the Terriers took silver in the men's DMR.

During the 2019 outdoor season, the track & field team placed third at Patriot League Championships. Once again, Oropeza helped coach Abigail Gugel to gold in the women's outdoor 5000m and freshman Andrea Claeson won silver in the 1500m run. On the men's side, Brett Davidson won silver in the 10,000m run at Patriot League Championships and the Terriers won gold at the  ECACs/IC4A in the 4x800m relay.

Oropeza attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned her degree in Kinesiology in 2015. During her time at Texas, she competed on the cross country and track & field teams from 2011-2015. Oropeza ran the 800m, 1500m, mile, 3,000m and 5,000m events. She was part of the 2013 and 2014 indoor and outdoor Big 12 championship teams and participated in the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championship.

After graduation, she joined Southern Methodist University's track & field team as a volunteer coach in 2016. Upon moving to Boston in the fall of 2016, Oropeza became the assistant coach for the girl's winter and spring track teams at Melrose High School.

Oropeza earned a masters of education in human development with a coaching specialization from Boston University in May of 2018.Â
