Hayden Folgert was an important contributor to the men’s rowing team over the past four years. Folgert was the recipient of the team’s 2020 Twombly-Mowatt Leadership award which is given to a senior who is not a captain but has exemplified initiative and leadership in the furtherance of men’s rowing.
 
As a senior, Hayden was a member of the team’s Championship 8 “B” boat that finished 18th among collegians with a time 14:37.19 at the 2019 Head of the Charles Regatta.

During his junior season, Folgert sat in the three seat of the third varsity eight boat that finished second in the petite final at the IRA National Championship Regatta, ahead of boats from Syracuse, Navy, Wisconsin and Dartmouth to finish eighth in the country. His performance helped the Terriers finish eighth as a team in the IRA Ten Eyck Points Championship standings with 136 points, a nine point improvement over 2018.
  
“Hayden is a person that the team looked up to,” said head men’s rowing coach Thomas Bohrer. “He was often the first person in the boathouse or weight room, ready to get right into practice. Post practice you would see Hayden spending extra time rolling out or stretching - methodically spending extra time working to get better. His work ethic and attention detail could only be described as professional. Hayden wouldn’t settle for less than his best when practices were tough. I could always use Hayden as a barometer on the team – if he looked tired I knew the training period was pretty heavy and maybe it was time to dial back some work. If I needed to get a pulse of the team, I could always rely on Hayden to give me an honest and insightful response. Always friendly and respectful to everyone, always observing and learning, never taking short cuts, and always having an attitude that if you want to improve at something you have to work at it. If you watched Hayden go about his daily routine you would quickly know what kind of person he is.”
