BOSTON -
The Boston University women's soccer team and Dartmouth batted through 110 minutes of action to a 1-1 draw on Monday evening at Nickerson Field. Sophomore Casey Brown netted the Terriers' lone goal and senior Christina Reuter made six saves, including one in overtime, as BU moves to 5-5-2 overall and Dartmouth stands at 3-7-1.
Sophomore Casey Brown (Natick, Mass.) broke the deadlock with a low, hard shot to the far corner at 39:10. Brown received a pass from sophomore Mara Osher (Rockville, Md.) off a free kick from freshman Lina Cords (Leonardtown, Md.) and maneuvered around the Dartmouth defenders and unloaded a shot to give the Terriers the 1-0 lead.
The Terriers maintained their lead until 55:55 when Dartmouth's offensive pressure resulted in a goal when Kelsey Quick sent a long lob into the far left corner that just barely snuck inside the post.
Through the first ten minutes of the game BU dominated possession with quick, crisp passing through the midfield, however, Dartmouth was the first to record a shot in the 15th minute when Myra Sack's shot attempt went wide left.
Sophomore Farrell McClernon (West Chester, Pa.) recorded BU's first shot attempt, but her strike sailed high and Osher lobbed a ball towards the net in the 33rd minute, however, Dartmouth goalkeeper Amanda Webb was there for the save.
After being tested only once in the first half, Reuter (Madison, Wis.) remained alert and in the 37th minute Myra Sack sent a high shot into the far upper corner, however, Reuter made a leaping save to her left to punch the ball out of danger. On the ensuing corner kick Reuter made another punch out that cleared the ball out of the box at 37:19.
Brown netted her second goal of the season two minutes later to break the scoreless deadlock.
In the second half, Dartmouth came out strong, pressing in the offensive third. However, BU quickly began to counter and regain possession. Dartmouth's pressure, however, paid off in the 56th minute when Kelsey Quick tallied her first goal of the season.
Red-shirt freshman Taleen Dimirdjian (Riverside, Calif.) nearly gave the Terriers the lead when she sent a header for the low corner, but Webb made a diving save to preserve the tie. Four minutes later, Dimirdjian did it again on a set piece from junior Marisha Schumacher-Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa.), however, Webb snared the attempt and ultimately sent it into overtime.
In overtime, BU had the first golden opportunity on a corner kick from Schumacher-Hodge, when Dimirdjian put a header just wide of the net. On the next counter, Dartmouth hit the post and sent a ball high on the rebound. Dartmouth's Maggie Goldstein placed a shot on target on a free kick, but Reuter made the save to preserve the tie and put the game in double overtime.
In the second and final overtime freshman Brittany Heist (Lancaster, N.Y.) sent a shot that went just left of the post.
BU will return to conference action on Thursday, Oct. 11 at Maine. Kick off is set for 3:00 p.m.
