CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. - The Boston University wrestling team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, dropping a 25-12 decision to Binghamton in its CAA opener at Shenendehowa High School. The Terriers now stand at 2-1 on the year with an 0-1 conference mark.

The Terriers claimed wins in four of the final five bouts, but the Bearcats had established a 22-0 lead that ended up being simply too large to overcome. Binghamton improved to 2-4 (1-0 CAA) on the year with the win.

Sophomore A.J. Detwiler posted an 8-3 victory at 165 over Brett Nelson. BU emerged victorious in the final three matches, as freshmen Ryan Malo (184) and John Hall (197) came through with with 9-2 and 5-4 wins, respectively, before junior Jim Connors edged Mike Patterson, 5-4, in the heavyweight bout.

Without a healthy 125-pounder, the Terriers were in the hole early with a forfeit. Binghamton doubled its lead when Leigh Tobias pinned sophomore Abbie Rush at 133.

At 141, senior Joey Whitaker suffered a hard-fought 5-4 loss at the hands of Anwar Goeres. The following match, defending CAA champion Mike Roberts dropped a 13-3 major decision against Kyle Fried.

Junior Carlo Ferrandino fell short, 11-7, in his 157-pound match with Nate Patterson, and Blake Fusilier was topped by Josh Patterson at 174 by a score of 6-2.

The Terriers will take three weeks off from competition before traveling to UNC-Greensboro for the Southern Scuffle on Dec. 29-30.
