Box Score
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
Backed by Mara Osher's goal in the 47th minute the Boston University women's soccer team earned a 1-0 triumph over Brown on Wednesday evening in Providence, R.I. Red-shirt freshman Janie Reilly made six saves in the shutout effort. The Terriers improve to 3-4-0, while the Bears fall to 0-4-1.
Osher (Rockville, Md.) gave the Terriers the lead two minutes into the second half on a high loft to the far left corner that Steffi Klein initially touched off the cross bar, but after her first touch the ball had enough momentum and rounded the post and into the far end of the net.
In a physical first half, Brown nearly scored in the 15th minute when Paige Reidy put a shot on goal after Reilly (Coral Springs, Fla.) punched out an attempt, however, the BU backline was lined up on the goal line to keep it out of the net.
Sophomore Farrell McClernon's (West Chester, Pa.) shot in the 25th minute went just wide of the net, which ended up being the best chance for the Terriers in the first stanza.
Towards the end of a first half, BU and Brown began to press offensively as action moved from the midfield and went end to end.
Reilly made a crucial save on hard, low shot from Lindsay Cunningham in the 15th minute of the second half that preserved the shutout. Brown began to push forward, putting a strain on the BU defense, however, the Terriers kept their form in the back.
BU locked it in for the remaining minutes to hold off the Bear's final offensive push.
The Terriers return to Nickerson Field for the first time since Sept. 2 when they host Minnesota at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21.
