BOSTON - The Boston University softball team dropped a 6-0 decision to Atlantic 10 foe Massachusetts on Thursday afternoon at BU Softball Field. Sophomore hurler Cassidi Hardy suffered the loss in the circle and falls to 10-5 on the season. The Terriers drop to 23-15 overall, while the Minutewomen improve to 28-11. BU will return to conference action in a three-game series at UMBC beginning on Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m.

Juniors Shayne Lotito and Melissa Dubay, along with freshman April Setterlund, collected hits off UMass' Brandice Balschmiter, who earned her 12th shutout of the season with 10 strikeouts.

UMass took the early lead on a two-run triple to right center and added to it with a solo shot to left field in the third. An RBI double in the fifth moved the score to 4-0 with runners on second and third and a single on the next at-bat plated two more. In the top of the seventh, the Minutewomen loaded the bases; however, freshman Kelley Engman got herself out the jam with a strikeout.

BU travels to UMBC for a three-game series over the weekend. The Terriers and Retrievers will open with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., and conclude the set with a single game on Sunday at noon.
