BOSTON - The Boston University softball team (15-11) extended its winning streak to seven games on Wednesday afternoon by claiming a 7-3 victory over Providence (15-12-1) at BU Softball Field. Junior Melissa Dubay scored the eventual game-winning run and hit 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while classmate Shayne Lotito drove in a pair of runs. Sophomore Megan Currier earned the win and improved to 4-3 on the mound. Next up for the Terriers is Rhode Island on Thursday at BU Softball Field at 4:00 p.m.

Freshman Melanie Delgado also picked up two hits on the afternoon to go along with one run. Junior Christy Leath drove in the Terriers' first run of the game to tie the score at one and the squad never trailed the rest of the way. Currier pitched 5.2 innings with three strikeouts and three runs. Hardy earned the save retiring the final four batters.

The Friars got on the board early with a run in the first on a single; however, good defense from the Terriers ended the inning with two straight outs, including a play at home plate. BU knotted the score at one in the bottom of the frame on back-to-back hits. Setterlund led off the inning with a double down the left field line and Leath drove in the freshman center fielder two at-bats later on a double.

Currier got herself out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the second with a strikeout to end the inning and BU took the lead in the bottom half of the frame, when Lotito drove in two runs on a double to left field. The Terriers increased their lead in the third with runs on two wild pitches, and Dubay tacked two more onto the board with a long ball to left center.

In the fifth, the Friars closed the gap with two runs on four hits to move the score to 7-3; however, that was as close as they would get as the inning ended on a fly out to left field. In the sixth, Hardy entered the game and picked up the save, retiring all four batters she faced in the sixth and seventh.

BU will host Rhode Island tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
