BOSTON -
Boston University men's crew claimed victory against a visiting George Washington crew Saturday morning on the Charles River. The Terriers picked up wins in both the varsity and JV eight races.
Racing in a strong tailwind with rough water in the last 750-500 meters, BU's first varsity got off the line first and held steady pressure to pull out to the lead. BU's stern was even with George Washington's bow at the 500m mark. The Terriers had open water by 1000m and cruised to a six-second win.
In the JV eight, the Terriers again got off the start quickly and moved to an early six-seat lead at 500m. BU had nearly a length advantage just past 1000 meters before the Colonials started to move at 1600m to take back four seats. However, BU answered with 200 meters to go to cross the line in 6:03.1 to GW's 6:05.1.
The first freshman eight was level with GW until the 500m mark when the Colonials turned up the pressure to move away from the Terriers. BU's third varsity scrimmaged Harvard and placed second behind the Crimson's 3V and ahead of Harvard's 4V.
BU returns to the water on Sunday, May 4 hosting Wisconsin for the Jablonic Cup with MIT starting at 8 a.m.
