The Boston University wrestling team split a pair of matches on Saturday evening at Case Gymnasium, topping Sacred Heart by a 27-10 score and falling to Brown by a 17-15 margin. Freshman Hunter Meys and C.J. Inglin recorded pins against the Pioneers as the Terriers move to 6-6-1 this season.
Meys, Inglin, sophomore John Hall and senior Mike Roberts all won both of their matches on the evening for BU.
Meys and Inglin bookended the opening match with pins of their Sacred Heart opponents. Senior Jim Connors captured the heavyweight match in overtime and classmate Carlo Ferrandino also earned a decision to set the stage for junior Ben Mandelbraut to clinch the match by winning a decision in the 165-pound bout.
The Pioneers got their points in the lighter weight classes with junior Cory Dunn earning a major decision and freshman Michael Impellizeri and senior Chris Davis taking their matches as well.
In the nightcap against Brown, junior Ryan Buff earned a decision for the Terriers, while the Bears built up points with decisions going to seniors Matt Gevelinger and Zach Zdrada and juniors Stephen DeLorenzo and Bryan Tracy, while junior Greg Einfrank claimed five points with a technical fall.
The match came down to the final bout with Meys needing a pin of Brown junior Bran Crudden to deliver the win for the Terriers. Meys won the bout in an 8-1 decision, but was unable to earn a fall.
The Terriers return to action on Sunday (Feb. 15) at 1 p.m., hosting East Stroudsburg for a dual meet at 1 p.m.
