BOSTON -
The Boston University men's tennis team rallied from a three-point deficit but eventually fell short, 4-3, against Colgate on Sunday morning at the Track and Tennis Center. With the loss, the Terriers drop to 1-5 on the season, while the Raiders improve to 2-3.
Colgate swept the doubles competition for the first point and earned the first two singles points to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Three of the next four contests went to three sets, but the Terriers won only two of them to lose the match.
In singles competition, Jon Nogueras defeated Tim Sichler, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3, and Michael Yassky followed with a 6-1, 7-6(3) victory over Charles Weinstein at No. 4 for the 3-0 lead. Bill Kring started the rally at No. 2 with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win against Phil Bernasek.
Three matches were being played at the same time, with Regis Chang earning an easy 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 over Sean Spellberg. In the No. 5 contest, James Bernstein lost the first set but rebounded to win the second before dropping a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 decision to Ruslan Gassoutnkiov.
The No. 1 match between Jeff Chudacoff and Martin MacIntyre finished after Colgate earned the clinching point but proved to still be a thrilling contest as the two competitors battled for over two and a half hours. Dealing with serious cramping after winning the first set and losing the second, Chudacoff toughed it out and won the third set for a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Martin MacIntyre.
The Terriers have a week off before hosting Quinnipiac next Sunday (Feb. 15) at 3 p.m.
