Amherst, Mass. - The Boston University softball team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 17/21 Massachusetts on Wednesday afternoon, as it falls to 27-13 overall. UMass improves to 25-6 on the season. Seniors Brooke Hudson and Nora Militz recorded hits in the contest and junior hurler Megan Currier was charged with the loss in the pitcher's circle.

The Terriers' batters faced UMass' ace Brandice Balschmiter, who just one game earlier broke the school record for career wins in a no-hitter against Providence. Balschmiter - ranked fifth in the nation in shutouts - was on pace to repeat the accomplishment, until Militz stepped to the plate in the fourth frame and broke up the no-hit attempt with a single to shortstop.

BU, down by one off a solo homer in the second, was poised for a comeback as Hudson connected on the squad's second consecutive hit; however, the Minutewomen recorded back-to-back outs to end the threat in the fourth.

UMass tacked on two more runs in the fifth and sixth off two more solo home runs. BU was unable to get another runner on base until the seventh inning when Hudson singled to third base; however, Balschmiter recorded one strikeout and forced a ground out to end the game.

BU will take on Holy Cross on Thursday (April 16) in Worcester, Mass. The doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
