Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw with Loyola

Baltimore, Md. - The Boston University women's soccer team (2-1-1) battled through 110 minutes of action with Loyola (2-2-1) and came away with a 1-1 draw on Friday evening at Geppi-Aikens Field in Baltimore, Md. Senior Farrell McClernon notched the Terriers' lone tally, but a last-second goal from the Greyhounds sent the game into overtime, where both teams were not able to find the back of the net.

The Terriers took control of the last overtime, outshooting the Greyhounds, 3-0, as sophomore Jessica Luscinski and McClernon both put shots on frame and sophomore Krista Minto nearly scored but her header hit the post.

In all, BU outshot Loyola, 20-10, and forced Brittany Henderson to make nine saves. Senior Janie Reilly and sophomore Annie Tooley split time in net, as Reilly made one stop and Tooley collected six. The Terriers drew five corner kicks to the Greyhounds two; however, the home squad converted on their last corner for the game-tying goal

After 77 minutes of scoreless action, McClernon put BU up 1-0 in the 78th minute off a pass from classmate Emily Pallotta, whole slide it to her at the top of the box. McClernon then unloaded the shot for her second goal of the season. Over the next 11 minutes, both teams traded shots until with just 11 seconds remaining in the game Loyola drew a corner kick and Kelly Farrell stepped up to take it. Her serve was placed in the box, where Christina Gomez was waiting to head home the game-tying goal with one second remaining on the clock and send the game into overtime.

In the first overtime period both teams had their chances, and Loyola peppered Tooley with two early shots, but her saves kept the Terriers and the game. Luscinski nearly put it away in the 101st minute but her attempt hit the post. In the second extra session, Luscinski continued to push the Terriers' offense with two shot on goal, but Brittany Henderson came up with saves in the 104th and 109th minute. Minto also nearly put the game away with a header that rang off the post.

Next for the Terriers is a match-up with No. 7 West Virginia in Morgantown, W.Va., on Sunday (Sept. 6) at 1:30 p.m.
