BOSTON - Highlighted by a walk-off grand slam in game one by sophomore Emily Roesch, the Boston University softball team (25-18, 9-2 AE) claimed two victories over Binghamton (21-14, 6-8 AE) on Saturday afternoon at BU Softball Field. Junior April Setterlund broke a single-season record for runs and tied the doubles record as she went 2-for-5 and senior Rachel Moeller drove in three runs on a home run to center field.

Sunday's third game in the series has been moved up to 11 a.m.

Setterlund tied her record for doubles in a season with her 15th and broke the single-season mark for runs (50) as she crossed home three times on Saturday. Moeller went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, while junior Christina Valdes, sophomore Erica Casacci, senior Rachel Hebert and Setterlund also recorded two hits each.

Senior Cassidi Hardy earned her 14th win of the season, striking out a career-high 14 batters and walking just two. Freshman Whitney Tuthill went the distance in game two for her eighth win of the season as she struck out two and allowed just one unearned run. Tuthill also batted in both games and recorded a solo home run.

Despite no runs through the first three innings of game one, the Terriers managed three hits off Binghamton's Rhoda Marsteller and had one runner in scoring position as Moeller stole second base. In the third, BU again put a runner on the second bag as Hebert laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved Valdes up one.

After carrying a no-hitter into the fourth inning, the Bearcats' Deannie Plemon drove the ball over the fence for the game's first run and break-up Hardy's no-hit bid.

In the bottom of the sixth, BU had its best opportunity as Casacci and Setterlund moved to second and third off a sacrifice bunt from Roesch. Moeller stepped up and unleashed a home run to center field with one out to give BU the 3-1 edge.

After allowing a home run in the fourth, Hardy went on a tear, striking out six of the next 13 batters until back-to-back RBI singles in the seventh knotted the score at 3-3.

In the bottom of the bottom of the seventh, Hebert recorded a two-out triple to right field and then Binghamton loaded the bases on back-to-back intentional walks (Casacci, Setterlund) before Roesch unloaded a first-pitch walk-off grand slam to win the contest 7-3.

In game two, it was a pitcher's duel as both offenses were only able to manage no more than two hits off the respective hurlers and no one advanced past the second bag with just five base runners through the first four innings and a half frames.

In the bottom of the fifth, Tuthill stepped up and drove a deep long ball to left center for her sixth homer of the season. Hebert rounded out the fifth-inning scoring with an RBI single through the left side.

In the top of the sixth, the Bearcats threatened with a bases-loaded jam on two errors and a walk and then scored on a fielder's choice to make it a 2-1 game; however, Roesch made a diving stop on the third out to tag the lead runner and end the frame.

Setterlund doubled to right center in the top of the sixth to tie the single-season record for two-baggers and following a double steal, she advanced home when Binghamton's catcher overthrew third base.

To round out the game, Binghamton put runners on second and third in the seventh; however, the Bearcats' Stephanie Valencia fouled out to Hebert to end the contest.

The Terriers and Bearcats will complete the three-game series tomorrow at 11 a.m. at BU Softball Field.
