NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Boston University men's tennis team concluded the 2009-10 season with a fourth-place showing at the America East Championship Saturday afternoon at the Yale Tennis Center. A day after sweeping Hartford, the Terriers (6-14) fell to 48th-ranked Binghamton, 4-0, in the semifinals and then lost to second-seeded Stony Brook, 4-2, in the consolation match.
The Bearcats swept the doubles and won every set in singles action contested. Senior James Bernstein led BU in the No. 5 match with the most games won at five.
In the consolation, the Terriers put up a valiant effort but fell just short, losing two of the three doubles contests and three singles matches.
To start the match, both BU and SBU earned 8-3 victories, but the Seawolves captured the point with their top doubles team of Dil and Wong defeating Jeff Chudacoff and Josh Friedman, 9-7.
In singles, Friedman knocked off Wong, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2, and Regis Chang pulled out a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6 against West. Bernstein rallied from a set down but eventually dropped a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 decision to Sztabholz at No. 5.
