VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Boston University men's swimming and diving team handed Villanova a 183-109 loss on Friday evening. The Terriers won 11 events, including two from Bryon Kallert and Jeff Thomas, respectively.
The 200 medley relay opened the day with a victory in a time of 1:34.68. In his first individual victory of the afternoon, Kallert claimed top honors in the 100 back with a winning time of 52.73, while Nik Astashinsky took second in 53.10.
Jeff Thomas cruised to victory in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.28 and later won the 200 IM in 1:56.68. In the 200 IM, Astashinsky finished second in 1:58.75. Astashinsky picked up a win of his own in the 200 back (1:54.82) with Justin Gilmartin closing in at second (1:57.04).
In the 50 free, Gilmartin led a sweep of the podium with a time of 21.51. Jackson Hill was second in 21.59, and Matt Rickett placed third in 22.21.
Another 1-2-3 sweep came in the 200 breast as Kyle Ernst (2:06.28), Thomas (2:11.35), and Knox Anderson (2:17.53) finished in first, second, and third, respectively. Continuing with that trend, Kallert won the 100 fly in 52.16, while Daniel Kempf placed second (52.52) and Rickett took home third (52.85).
Jake Frankenfield was BU's go-to diver on Friday as he won the 1M (215.75) and the 3M (227.77).
To close out the evening, the 400-free relay of Hill, Rickett, Kallert, and Kempf was victorious with a time of 3:11.45.
BU will return to the pool on Wednesday (Feb. 2) when it heads to crosstown rival Boston College for a 6 p.m. meet.
