Boston University had its run at the NCAA Wrestling Championships come to an end on Friday afternoon, but not before earning two wins against Big Ten opponents. The Terriers' three qualifiers combined for five victories in the tournament, marking the program's best showing in 14 years.
Sophomore Hunter Meys (174) and junior John Hall (197) and were each victorious in their first matches of the day in the second consolation round against wrestlers from Iowa and Michigan, respectively.
Meys overcame two early takedowns by Iowa's Ethen Lofthouse - the No. 9 seed in the bracket - by coming back to earn an impressive 6-5 victory. Hall followed with a 4-2 triumph over Michigan's Anthony Biondo thanks to a takedown in both the second and third periods.
Junior Fred Santaite (133) was the first Terrier eliminated when opened the day with a 12-8 loss to No. 10 Rollie Peterkin of Penn.
Meys and Hall had their seasons come to an end with narrow losses in the third round of wrestlebacks. Meys was topped, 4-0, by Purdue's Luke Manuel right before Hall nearly upset No. 11 Jerome Ward of Iowa State in a 3-2 loss.
Santaite finishes the year with a record of 21-7, while Meys and Hall wrap up at 26-9 and 21-5, respectively.
