Updated Brackets and Results
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Sophomore Hunter Meys (174) and junior John Hall (197) advanced to the finals in their respective brackets at the 2011 CAA Championships, as the Boston University wrestling team stands in third place midway through the two-day tournament.
Meys upset top-seeded Rob Morrison of Rider with a 8-6 win in the semifinals to become one of only two No. 4 seeds to advance to the championship round. Two of Meys' six losses this season came against Morrison.
Hall - the top seed at 197 - dominated his competition on day one with a pair of pins, including one at 6:10 of his semifinal bout with Matt Loew of Hofstra.
In all, nine Terriers will return to the mats on Saturday, as seven others are alive in their respective consolation brackets. Four of those seven won their opening match of the day to advance to the semifinals.
Sophomore Nestor Taffur, the No. 6 seed at 149, started off the day with a huge 3-1 upset of third-seeded Brandon Bucher of George Mason in overtime.
Freshman Bubba McGinley (125), junior Fred Santaite (133) and senior Brock Mantella (184) also won in the quarterfinal round before falling in the semifinals.
With seven wrestlers in the finals and three others in consolations, Hofstra is in first place with 70.5 points. Defending champion Binghamton is right behind with 66 points.
The Terriers will enter Saturday with 30.5 points, while tournament host Rider (28) and Old Dominion (26) round out the top five.
