BOSTON - The Boston University softball team (18-11) dropped a 3-2 decision to Massachusetts (14-14) on Wednesday afternoon at BU Softball Field. Redshirt freshman Jayme Mask collected two hits, while classmate Chelsea Kehr was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

The Terriers nearly took the game in the bottom of the seventh. Down by one with two outs and runners on second and third, freshman Holli Floetker stepped to the plate and ripped a line drive that was heading towards the outfield, but UMass third baseman Teea Rogers made a game-saving snag to preserve the win.

The Terriers got six hits off UMass' ace Sarah Plourde, led by Mask's two. Senior April Setterlund was 1-for-2 with one run and one intentional walk, while Kehr had an RBI double. Setterlund's one run brought her career total to 150, which ties the program record. With one more she will take over sole possession of the career mark.

Floetker pitched the first 3.2 innings, surrendering two runs and three walks. She was charged with the loss and falls to 7-3 on the season. Sophomore Erin Schuppert pitched the final 3.1 frames, striking out six batters and giving up two hits and one unearned run.

UMass struck first in the third on an RBI single into left field that drove a runner home from second base. It then tacked on one more in the fourth on a single to center field and then loaded the bases with two outs, however Schuppert got out of the jam with a strikeout.

In the sixth, UMass made it a three-run game as it scored on an RBI triple into left field, however, a resilient Terrier side began to rally in the sixth as it loaded the bases in three straight at-bats. Floetker sent a sacrifice flyout into left field to score junior Erica Casacci and Kehr followed up with a double into right field to send Setterlund home and draw to within one run.

A strikeout ended the frame, but BU picked up again in the seventh and came dangerously close to taking the game over. Mask got on base on a single and Setterlund was intentionally walked on the next at-bat. After both stole their own respective bases it put them in a prime position to come home. Floetker then stepped to the plate and ripped the ball straight towards left field, but UMass' Teea Rogers was able to snag it from sailing into the outfield to end the game.

BU will return to the diamond on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it welcomes UMBC to BU Softball Field.
