TopDrawer Soccer List
The defending America East regular season champion Boston University men's soccer team will enter the 2011 season with three of the top-100 seniors in the country according to a list compiled by TopDrawer Soccer.
Three-time First Team All-America East honoree Michael Bustamante is the highest ranking student-athlete in the state of Massachusetts at No. 28. Becoming just the 11th Terrier in the program's history to receive a third All-Northeast Region award and first since Zach Kirby ('06), the 2008 Midfielder of the Year Bustamante was an anchor once again in the midfield last season. He helped the offense by converting on two penalty kicks and assisting on four scores, while also helping BU's defense shut out eight opponents. With 23 career assists, he is just one shy of cracking the top 10 in program history.
The 2010 America East Fans' Choice Player of the Year Ben Berube sits at No. 38 after leading the Terriers last season with 21 points and five game-winning goals. The striker tallied a career-high eight goals after recording three in his first two seasons combined. He led the league in conference-only action with 12 points (5g, 2a) and had the game-winning goal in three consecutive games, including one against then-No. 20 Harvard.
Named the conference's Defender of the Year last season, Colin Henry holds a No. 58 ranking. A two-time First Team All-America East honoree, he steadied a defense that included two freshman starters and a redshirt-freshman goalkeeper. Starting all 17 games in the back for the Terriers, he helped BU allow just 0.86 goals per game, including a league-best three scores in seven America East games.
The Terriers will kick off the new season at Holy Cross on Friday, Aug. 26, and will face St. John's in the home opener on Saturday, Sept. 3.
