Peters earns second straight win at Codfish Bowl

BOSTON - Sophomore Rich Peters finished first for the second time in as many tries this season, as he bested a field of 286 runners at the 2011 Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park in Boston.

Peters posted a time of 25:11 to claim the top spot, while teammate Peter Gilmore crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 25:37. Fourteen runners in all represented BU in the 8K event.

It was the second meet of the season for the Boston University men's cross country program, who finished second in the team event. The Terriers were just one second behind the pace set by Bates College, as BU finished with a total time of 2:11.33.

Senior Joe Greenspun finished 17th (26:43), while freshman Aaron Somoroff finished in 27th with a time of 26:58. In all, four Terriers were in the top-30. Junior Michael Caputo (34th - 27:04), sophomore Tom Waterman (40th - 27:13) and freshman Ben Ravetz (46th - 27:21) rounded out the top-50.

Newcomer Chris Mercurio (27:32) and senior Colin Lee (27:33) finished back-to-back in 55th and 56th place, respectively. Freshman Brian Greenfield placed 69th with a time of 27:59, while fellow rookie John McKeon finished 98th (28:38).

Other finishers for the Terriers included rookies Matt Solomon (105th - 28:48), Zach Marriott (11th - 28:57) and Alex Civitano (136th - 29:32).

Next on the docket for BU will be another visit to Franklin Park, as the Terriers will compete in the New England Championships on Saturday, Oct. 8.
