BOSTON - Extending its win streak to seven games, the Boston University men's basketball team shot 50 percent from the field for an 83-48 victory over UMBC on Tuesday night in Case Gymnasium. Holding its fifth consecutive opponent below 58 points, the Terriers improve to 11-11 and 7-1 in America East action while moving half a game ahead of Stony Brook (6-1 AE) for sole possession of first place in the league standings.

Senior Darryl Partin tallied a game-high 17 points, as 10 other teammates also scored in the contest. Sophomore Travis Robinson contributed 10 points and six boards, while America East Player of the Game D.J. Irving recorded nine points and seven assists against just two turnovers. Classmate Dom Morris led the defensive effort with a team-high eight rebounds and two blocks to help BU out-rebound UMBC, 45-28.

Named UMBC's America East Player of the Game, Chase Plummer had a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds along with five turnovers. Jamar Wertz was the other Retriever in double figures, as UMBC (3-17, 2-6 AE) finished the night 17-of-55 (.309) from the field.

Following a basket by Ryan Cook to bring UMBC within five (18-13) at 9:12 in the first half, the Terriers went on a 16-4 spurt with seven different men scoring. BU entered the locker room ahead, 39-22, behind 10 points from Robinson and 13-2 advantage in second chance points.

The Terriers would open the second half with a 10-2 run capped by Irving's 3-pointer. They would later extend the lead to as high as 37 (76-39) with 5:50 remaining in regulation on a fastbreak slam dunk by sophomore Mike Terry, Jr. following his second steal of the night.

The 35-point victory marked BU's largest margin of victory since an 87-46 win over Hartford in the 2010 America East quarterfinals.

Senior Patrick Hazel was one of seven Terriers with at least seven points, finishing 4-of-6 for nine total along with six rebounds. After swatting away three attempts, he now has 107 career blocks in just two seasons as a Terrier and just needs eight more to surpass Rashad Bell ('05) for second-place all-time at BU.

As a team, the Terriers went 29-of-58 (.500) and 9-of-26 (.346) from behind the arc. Entering the game shooting 65.9 percent at the charity stripe, BU finished 16-of-20 (.800) with redshirt freshman Mat Piotrowski hitting both of his attempts for his first career points late in the contest.

After extending its home win streak against America East competition to 15 games, the Terriers will next hit the road for Stony Brook on Friday (Jan. 27). The ESPNU telecast will begin at 9 p.m.
