BOSTON - The Boston University wrestling team picked up a pair of home wins on Saturday, defeating Duke by a score of 21-18 before posting a 37-12 victory against Bridgewater State. The Terriers improve to 11-4 on the season.
Senior Fred Santaite (133) and sophomore Nick Tourville (157) each recorded a pair of pins on the afternoon. Santaite remained undefeated on the year with a perfect 10-0 record.
Junior Kyle Czarnecki (174) picked up two victories, including one pin, and seven other Terriers earned one win on the day.
Sophomore Kevin Innis provided the late heroics in the Duke dual, as he broke an 18-18 tie in the final match with a 5-2 win over Andrew Fulk to give the Terriers the victory.
In the previous match, sophomore Mike Wrin wrestled up to 197 and did not allow Brian Self any bonus points, as the Duke wrestler posted an 11-4 decision to tie the team score.
Freshman Bubba McGinley started the match with a 6-0 win over Peter Terrezza at 125 before Santaite pushed the score to 9-0 with a pin at 1:14 against Brandon Gambucci.
After Duke went back-to-back at 141 and 149 to cut BU's lead to 9-6, Tourville pushed the cushion to 15-6 when he got a pin against Immanuel Kerr-Brown late in the second period.
Duke's Ryan Harding edged freshman Mitchell Wightman, 4-3, at 165 and Czarnecki blanked Randy Roden, 6-0, at 174 to make the score 18-9.
BU forfeited the 184-pound match before Self's win at 197 helped the visitors draw even.
Against Bridgewater State, the Terriers won the first eight matches to take a 37-0 lead before forfeiting the final two bouts.
BU will return to the mat on Friday (Feb. 3) when it hosts Princeton for a 7:30 p.m. dual.
