BOSTON - Highlighted by three pins and three technical falls, the Boston University wrestling team opened the dual season with victories over Bridgewater State and Franklin & Marshall on Saturday evening at Case Gym.
Improving to 2-0, BU started the day with a 48-3 victory over the BSU Bears (0-2) before pulling out a 25-16 win against the Diplomats (1-2).
Senior Kyle Czarnecki (174), junior Kevin Innis (285), sophomore Alex Najjar (184), junior B.J. Suitor (133) and sophomore Mitchell Wightman (165) led the Terriers with two victories apiece.
Leading 21-16 with one match on the docket remaining against Franklin & Marshall, Innis clinched the team victory for BU with a 10-2 major decision.
Wightman claimed the most points on the day for the Terriers. He needed just 26 seconds to pin BSU's Stephen Hogan and followed with a technical fall with 9.5 seconds remaining in the second period against Franklin & Marshall's Colin Lahiff.
Suitor was efficient in his first match, using 31 seconds to get the pin before earning a 10-4 decision against the Diplomats. Najjar followed up a 15-3 major decision with a technical fall in the second period.
Competing in the first match against BSU, junior Nick Tourville earned BU's third other pin with 11 seconds left in the second period. Sophomore Peter Ishiguro also only faced the Bears and clinched a technical fall as the second period came to an end.
The Terriers will next host CAA foe Binghamton on Sunday (Dec. 9) at 1 p.m.
