BOSTON - The Boston University wrestling team closed out its first dual weekend with a 26-13 loss to CAA rival Binghamton on Sunday at Case Gym. The Terriers got wins at four weights and moved to 2-1 on the year. Binghamton improved to 2-6.
Junior Kevin Innis (285), sophomore Tyler Scotton (141), redshirt junior Nestor Taffur (157) and senior Kyle Czarnecki (174) all picked up victories on the day.
The match started at 285, where Innis posted a 12-7 triumph over Tyler Deuel. It was the Terriers' lone lead of the day, however, as the visitors responded with back-to-back bonus wins at 125 and 133 to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Scotton cut the deficit to 9-6 following a 9-4 victory over Dan Riggi at 141 but a pin by third-ranked Donnie Vinson at 149 bumped the Bearcats' lead to 15-6.
Taffur earned his team-best 15th victory of the season with a 10-2 major decision against Jack McKeever at 157.
The closest match of the day came at 165, where a stalling point on Mitchell Wightman proved to be the difference as Binghamton's Vincent Grella escaped with a 2-1 win.
Czarnecki earned his third win of the weekend with a 5-3 decision against John Paris at 174 to make the score 18-13 with two matches remaining.
The 184 match featuring BU's Alex Najjar and Binghamton's Cody Reed proved to be one of the most exciting of the day, as a late takedown by Reed pushed him to a 9-7 victory.
At 197, seventh-ranked Nate Schiedel posted a 17-2 technical fall against BU's Hunter Meys.
The Terriers will take a month off from their schedule before hosting Sacred Heart on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
