SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Boston University women's cross country team began the season with an eighth-place finish at the Bryant Invitational on Saturday.
The Terriers had a score of 188 points in their season opener. Harvard claimed first place as a team with 27 points. BU averaged a time of 20:02.5 and had a cumulative time of 1:40:12.9 as a team.
Freshman Shelby Stableford shined for the Terriers in her collegiate debut, as she placed 19th with a team-best time of 18:57.1. Junior Danielle Bowen had a time of 19:05.4 to finish 26th, while senior Nikki Long was 42nd (19:34.2). Freshman Erin Pierce finished 43rd (19:34.8) and sophomore Ashli Tagoai was 58th (20:05.3) to round out the Terriers' top five.
Three newcomers to the squad rounded out Terriers' contingent on Saturday, as freshman Michelle Sumner (20:14.9), junior Janelle Jorgensen (21:45.2) and freshman Taxiarhia Arabatzis (21:49.2) all made their Terrier debuts at Bryant.
BU will be back in action on Friday (Sept. 14) when the Terriers travel to Durham, N.H., to compete at the UNH Invitational.
