BOSTON - Junior Rosa Moriello of the Boston University women's cross country team won the 2013 New England Championship on Saturday to help lead the Terriers to a fourth-place finish at Franklin Park.
Moriello turned in a time of 17:13, 14 seconds clear of the next closest competitor. She is the third straight Terrier to win the women's title; Katie Matthews won in 2011 before senior Monica Adler claimed the crown in 2012. The defending champion finished seventh this year with a time of 17:41.
BU totaled 186 points, six behind third-place Yale. New Hampshire claimed first with 57 points. The Terriers finished three places higher this season after a seventh-place showing in 2012.
Senior Nikki Long (18:10) continued her strong season with a 21st-place performance. Sophomore Shelby Stableford (18:39) was 51st while classmate Erin Pierce (19:09). finished 105th to round out the scoring. Junior Ashli Tagoai (19:10) and Senior Janelle Jorgensen (19:24) also competed for the Terriers.
BU will be back in action on Nov. 2 when the Terriers make their Patriot League Championship debut.
