BOSTON--Led by Meghan Green's career-high 19 points, the Boston University women's basketball team staged a furious comeback in the second half to defeat Harvard, 63-62 on Monday night in Case Gym.

With head coach Katy Steding's first career victory at the Division I level, the Terriers improve to 1-1 while the Crimson move to 1-1.

The Terriers trailed by as much as 17 points late in the first half and were down by 11 points with 10:23 to go in the game before starting the rally. BU went on a 16-3 run to take the lead with under five minutes remaining, which it never relinquished.

Green, a sophomore, also led the team in rebounds with seven and was one of two Terriers in double-digit scoring, accompanied by junior Troi Melton who also posted a career high with 11 points.

As a team, BU shot 42.9 percent from the field, improving from a 32 percent performance in the first half to a 51.6 shooting percentage in the second stanza. The Terrier defense limited the Crimson to just 28.9 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes. BU dominated in the post, outscoring Harvard 40-20 in the paint.

The Crimson scored the first 14 points of the game, a deficit that the Terriers could not overcome in the first half. Bu didn't score its first field goal until the 12 minute mark but took advantage of some momentum built by a Sarah Hope three-pointer to go on a 9-0 run that cut Harvard's lead to seven points.

Boston U. couldn't hold off Harvard for long, however, and the Crimson scored 12 of the next 14 points to gain its largest lead of the night, a 17-point margin. The Terriers were able to cut it down to 12 going into halftime but had a challenge ahead in the final 20 minutes.

BU faced that challenge head on, opening the second half with a 7-0 run but were soon stifled by the Crimson, yet again. Harvard regained an 11 point advantage halfway through the second period but it was then that BU turned on the jets and went on its 16-3 run to take the lead and eventually the win

The two squads traded baskets for the remainder of the game but Boston U. was able to maintain its advantage throughout the final five minutes to come away with the win.

BU will head down Commonwealth Ave. for a game with Boston College on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
