BOSTON - Scoring 12 straight goals in the first half, the Boston University men's lacrosse team (5-2, 2-1 PL) took a 17-8 victory over Lafayette on a rain-soaked Nickerson Field on Saturday afternoon, extending BU's win streak to a program-record three games.
Pat Myers led the team with a career-high five points which included a personal-best tying three goals and two assists. Ten different Terriers notched a goal on the afternoon and six tallied multiple scores.
Sophomore Adam Schaal recorded four points on the day (2g, 2a) while freshman Ryan Hilburn added three points (2g, 1a) to the BU total.
Christian Carson-Banister notched five saves and allowed six goals in his fifth win of the season while Lafayette's Matt Cortese recorded an impressive 12 saves but could not stop the Terriers, who scored 17 goals against him.
Sam Talkow was impressive at the faceoff X, winning 11-of-16 including 10 in the first half to help BU score its 12 goals, two of which were netted by the sophomore.
Lafayette, who has struggled offensively this season and came into the game averaging under seven goals per contest, came out strong and scored two quick goals to take an early 2-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest.
The Terriers quickly put a stop to Lafayette's offense and scored 12 unanswered goals to go into halftime with a 12-2 advantage.
BU made up for the deficit with seven minutes left to play in the first quarter and added two more to start the second with a two-goal advantage. The Terriers could not be stopped in the second quarter, scoring eight goals and holding the Leopards to just three shots throughout the period.
Lafayette came out of halftime firing and scored three straight goals to cut into the Terrier lead but Sam Tenney, who totaled two goals on the afternoon, put a stop to the streak and notched his first of the day while BU was on the shot clock.
The Terriers scored three more to make up for the Leopards' offensive efforts and went into the fourth quarter with a 16-5 lead.
BU took their offensive pressure off in the final period while Lafayette scored three more, but it wasn't enough to erase the 11-goal lead and the Terriers came away with a 17-8 victory.
The Terriers will beback in action next Saturday, March 21, for a home contest with Bucknell at 2:30 p.m. in the second contest of the Terrier's lacrosse doubleheader.
