BOSTON - The Boston University men's lacrosse team erased a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Bucknell, 11-9, on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

BU improves to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Patriot League after a thrilling victory over Bucknell (6-3, 3-2 PL). The Bison had previously beaten undefeated and 12th-ranked Brown on Tuesday. The Terriers have now exceeded their conference win total from a year ago.

Sophomore Cal Dearth notched five points (2g, 3a) on Saturday, none bigger though than his game-winning goal with 4:24 remaining in regulation that broke a 9-9 tie. Freshman Hayden Ruiz added an insurance goal with 1:38 to play to seal the victory.

Sam Talkow had another banner day at the faceoff X, dominating the Bison and winning 20-of-23 draws on the afternoon. The sophomore collected 11 ground balls and also scored a crucial goal to tie the game, 9-9, with 7:54 left in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Adam Schaal tallied three goals and added an assist for a four-point day. He also gathered two ground balls. Ruiz recorded a career-high three points with two markers and a helper while also collecting five ground balls. Freshmen Ryan Hilburn (1g, 1a) and Jack Wilson (2a) each had a pair of points while redshirt sophomore Sam Tenney and sophomore Ryan Johnston both found the back of the net.

Greg Wozniak was terrific in the defensive midfield, picking up five ground balls and causing one turnover. Wozniak's classmate, sophomore Dominick Calisto, caused two turnovers, as did freshman Henry Narlee. BU won 39 ground balls to just 25 for the Bison, and the Terriers were also 4-of-8 on extra-man opportunities.

Sophomore Christian Carson-Banister was sharp between the pipes for BU, especially in a second half that saw him make eight saves.

Bucknell scored the first two goals of the game before BU answered with a pair of man-up markers from Johnston and Ruiz less than 30 seconds apart. The Bison immediately responded to make it 3-2 before Dearth found Schaal with 1:54 left in the quarter to tie the score, 3-3.

Thomas Filbotte gave Bucknell a 4-3 lead 4:13 into the second quarter, but the Terriers rattled off three straight goals, with Dearth, Schaal and Tenney all beating Bucknell goaltender Sam Grinberg (11 saves) to lift the Terriers to a 6-4 lead.

The Bison got a goal back before the break and then scored the first goal of the third quarter to tie the game, 6-6. Hilburn took a Wilson feed, turned, and fired a shot past Grinberg to regain the lead for BU. Schaal added a man-up goal to take an 8-6 lead into the fourth quarter.

Bucknell collected the first three goals of the final frame to take an 8-9 lead with 8:03 to play. Talkow quickly erased that Bucknell momentum with a terrific play on the ensuing faceoff. He pushed the ball forward, picked up the ground ball and then ripped a shot past Grinberg for his eighth goal of the season.

Dearth's heroics came with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. He made a terrific move to evade a Bison defender before firing his 13th goal of the season past Grinberg.

BU will begin a two-game road trip next weekend with a battle for first place against Navy. The contest will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network beginning at 12 p.m.
