Five Wins Pull BU Closer on Day Two of Terrier Invitational

BOSTON – Boosted by five victories, the Boston University women's swimming & diving team pulled closer with front-runner Army West Point on Saturday during day two of the Terrier Invitational at the Competition Pool.

Following the first six events on Friday, the Black Knights held a 68.5 point advantage but now only leads the Terriers by 40 (738.5-698.5) with current No. 3 holder UMass well behind at 348.5. BC (316.5), Vermont (301), Bridgeport (158.5), New Hampshire (148.5) and Fairfield (6) round out the list.

A day after winning the 200-yard free relay, Isabella Olivares, Erin Nabney, Julimar Avila and Christy Wilde started the beginnings of the rally by edging Army by 0.12 seconds in a thrilling 200 medley relay victory on a time of 1:44.30.

Carly Soares followed up in the 400 IM with a winning time of 4:20.81, nearly four seconds ahead of the nearest competitor, as Danielle Yoon took seventh at 4:28.49. Later in the evening, Soares reached a second final in the 100 breast and placed seventh overall at 1:06.21.

Avila added her second win of the night in the 100 fly at 55.95, 0.22 seconds ahead of BC, with Wilde placing sixth at 57.43.

Nabney nearly duplicated Avila's efforts in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.09, but UNH's Liza Baykova pulled out ahead early for the win at 1:47.71. Lauren Dixon, Grace Anderson and Sarah Hargrave also reached the finals, placing fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.

The four Terriers ended the night by winning the 800 free relay by four seconds against Vermont with a time of 7:28.24. In the last individual swimming event, Olivares represented BU in the 100 back finals, finishing in a tie-for-sixth at 57.60.

After placing five divers in the 3-meter on Friday, the Terriers continued to dominate on Saturday with five advancing to the finals of the 1-meter. Tatlow followed up her second-place performance by claiming first at 259.10, while Kalli Roebelen (237.95), Lizzie Tillo (225.00), Hanna King (217.55) and Taylor DiChello (206.35) took slots 3-5 and seven, respectively.

BU will conclude the Terrier Invitational on Sunday (Nov. 20) with prelims beginning at 10 a.m.
