LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior
Haley Newman and senior
Sophia Souza each collected her fourth career Patriot League medal on Friday evening with runner-up finishes at the Patriot League Championships at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium.
Newman won silver in the 400-yard individual medley before Souza claimed silver in the 1-meter dive. Newman had the top time in prelims before shaving more than four seconds off in the finals with a season-best time of 4:18.31. Souza overcame a mishap on her fifth dive of the prelims by rebounding with a score of 290.9 in the finals, just 5.4 points off the winner.
Those performances helped the Terriers move up one spot to fifth place with 516 points, 53 points behind fourth-place Loyola Maryland.
Junior
Rena Ho made her first-ever PL final with a strong prelim performance in the 1-meter before finishing seventh in the evening with a score of 228.25. Senior
Marina Cataldo wrapped up her career with a 12th-place finish (236.10) while freshmen
MollyEllen Crowley (17th, 226.45) and
Kiley Gruber (20th, 222.80) also collected points.
In the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore
Izzy Valantiejus swam a personal-record 1:51.60 to take 12th while junior
Stella Langenbach won the C final to place 17th at 1:51.72. Freshman
Katie Pestrichelli took 20th in a time of 1:54.66.
Freshman
Cambria Jewett led the way for the Terriers in the 100-yard backstroke, taking 13th in a time of 56.71. Classmate
Abby Han won the C final in an impressive time of 55.22, which was the fifth-best of the evening session. Another freshman,
Julijana Jelic, took 18th (56.80) while senior
Alex Pastushan placed 23rd (57.44).
Sophomore
Milena Busma was BU's top performer in the 100-yard butterfly with a 16th-place finish (56.88) while senior
Sasha Ramey took 20th (56.14).
Senior
Julia Owerko won the C final of the 100-yard breaststroke in a lifetime-best of 1:04.99 and freshman
Ani Winter was two spots behind to secure a top-20 finish at 1:05.47.
Sophomore
Izzy Ramos and Jewett finished 14th (4:30.52) and 21st (4:34.24), respectively, in the 400 IM.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Terriers placed eighth in a season-best time of 1:34.37 from senior
Summer Brainin, Newman, junior
Janhvi Choudhary and Langenbach.
The fourth and final day of the meet will take place on Saturday (Feb. 22) with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
