BOSTON - After opening December with a 2-1 win at Providence on Friday, the No. 5/6 Boston University men's ice hockey team hosts the Friars on Saturday (Dec. 3) at Agganis Arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
The annual BU SAAC Teddy Bear Toss will take place during the second intermission of Saturday's game. Fans can bring their own teddy bears or purchase one in the concourse. In addition, rally towels will be available for fans in the Agganis lobby courtesy of Barnes & Noble.
The Terriers, who are now 7-2-1 in their past 10 games, are aiming for their first season sweep of the Friars since the 2010-11 season. On Friday, freshman Jake Oettinger made a career-best 38 saves and sophomore Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson and junior Nikolas Olsson scored 81 seconds apart in the second period en route to the 2-1 victory. The Terriers' penalty kill was impressive all night, keeping the PC power play scoreless on seven chances, including a five-minute major that was intensified by a 5-on-3 advantage that lasted for 1:40.
BU now leads the all-time series, 107-55-15, and is 11-4-3 in the past 18 meetings despite having just one win in the past five (1-2-2). The Terriers are 13-4-2 (.737) against the Friars in the 19 meetings at Agganis Arena.
The Friars, who haven't been over .500 since winning their season opener, rank second in the nation in shots allowed per game (23.3), third in faceoff percentage (.561) and fifth in penalty minutes per game (17.9).
Sophomore Erik Foley leads the team in both points (14) and goals (6) and is tied with freshman d-man Jacob Bryan for the squad lead in assists (8). Rookie Josh Wilkins has 12 points on five goals and seven assists while junior Brian Pinho - PC's active career points leader with 54 - has added 11 on four goals and seven assists.
Sophomore Hayden Hawkey has started all 13 games in goal and has a 2.68 goals-against average to go along with an .884 save percentage.
Nate Leaman is in his sixth season as head coach at PC and 111 of his 249 career victories have come there.
The Terriers' penalty kill ranks third in the nation with a 91.5-percent success rate (75-of-82) and has successfully killed off 24 of its opponents' past 25 power plays, including 14 straight. Earlier this season, BU killed off 22 straight opponent power plays, its longest such streak since 25 straight in March 2011.
Forsbacka Karlsson now has five points (3g, 2a) in three career games against the Friars. He is tied for second on the team in scoring with 13 points (3g, 10a).
Oettinger currently ranks ninth in the nation in goals-against average (1.92) and 10th in save percentage (.929).
