BOSTON -
Tied with under four minutes left in the game, Lafayette used a 7-0 run to get past the Boston University women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, taking a 71-64 win from the Terriers in Case Gym.
The game was knotted at 61-61 with 4:41 on the clock in the fourth quarter but BU (2-19, 2-9 PL) struggled to make shots and the Leopards (5-16, 3-8 PL) pounced on the opportunity, going on their 7-0 run over the next three minutes to find their largest lead of the day and create distance from the Terriers.
Meghan Green led the Terriers with 18 points while Sarah Hope was a consistent threat throughout the day, going 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and finishing with 14 points. Corrine Williams rounded out BU's double-digit scorers with 10 points thanks to 5-of-6 shooting from the charity stripe.
Lafayette's Ashley Lutz was trouble for the Terriers as she scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on the day. Maia Hood also tallied a double-double, totaling 15 points and 10 rebounds including six on offense.
The Terriers shot well overall, going 39.7 percent from the field and 8-of-18 from beyond the arc, both of which are better marks than the Leopards totaled on the day. The biggest difference-maker in the game was Lafayette's second-chance points as the Leopards turned 15 offensive rebounds into 18 ticks on the scoreboard while BU collected just six points off of second chances.
The game was incredibly close throughout the first three quarters, so much so that the score was tied both at halftime and at the end of the third quarter. BU and Lafayette exchanged the lead nine times and found the score tied on 11 occasions.
Neither team found much of an advantage throughout the first half, with the biggest point differential coming very early in the game when Lafayette took a five-point lead less than two minutes into the contest. From there, neither team had more than a one-possession advantage.
The story stayed the same for the opening minutes of the third quarter until BU went on its best streak of the game, outscoring Lafayette 11-2 over the middle three minutes of the period to find the Terriers' largest lead of the game, 45-38.
The Leopards countered with a run of their own, however, and managed to get the game even at 50-50 going into the final 10 minutes.
Lafayette's quick 7-0 run ultimately decided the game as the Leopards came away with their second win over BU this season.
The Terriers are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at American. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be aired live on the Patriot League Network.
