BOSTON - Opening a two-match homestand, the Boston University men's tennis team blanked Holy Cross, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon at the BU Track & Tennis Center.

With their first sweep of the season, the Terriers improve to 6-7, while the Crusaders fall to 2-3. The match marked the first meeting between the two teams in the inaugural Turnpike Trophy all-sports competition. BU extended its lead by one point to 12-3 by virtue of the men's tennis team defeating Holy Cross.

Competing in his second to final home match, senior Stefan Lemire was named Turnpike Trophy MVP for claiming a doubles win at No. 3 (6-3) and winning all 12 games in the No. 2 singles slot.

Junior Jay Leelavanich posted the same score at No. 1 and teamed with classmate Jake De Vries for a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. De Vries added another point at line 6 in singles.

Junior Mario Sandoval also won in both singles (#5) and in doubles (#2) with classmate Miguel Cepeda. Junior Lucas Bombonatti (#3) and freshman Satyajit Simhadri (#4) added the other two singles points to give BU the sweep.

The Terriers will next face Illinois State on Sunday (March 20) at 11 a.m. Prior to the start of doubles, they will first honor Lemire and senior Josh Hurd, who earlier helped Lemire claim the No. 3 doubles win against Holy Cross.
