BOSTON - The No. 21 Boston University field hockey team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 home victory over Bucknell on Senior Day at New Balance Field.
Junior Maika Akroyd scored the game's lone goal in the 15th minute to help the Terriers complete their second perfect 6-0 Patriot League season in the past three years. BU closes the regular season with an overall record of 11-7 while Bucknell, which will be the No. 3 seed in next weekend's Patriot League tournament, is now 8-9 with a 3-3 conference mark.
Prior to the game, the Terriers honored seniors Jordyn Beesmer, Grace Boston, Allie Renzi and Kali Shumock for their four years of dedication to the program. The class won all 12 of its home games during conference play over its four years at BU.
How it Happened
- The Terriers had a trio of first-half corners and scored on the second one for what would be the only goal they would need.
- A play was set up Akroyd at the top of the circle and her shot found the boards at 14:55 following assists by freshman Petra Hall and senior Kali Shumock.
- Bucknell quickly earned a corner on the other end and set up its best chance of the afternoon but freshman Millie Baker stood tall in goal, making back-to-back stops to keep the Bison off the board.Â
- The Terrier defense did its job the rest of the way, holding the Bison without a shot on goal for the final 56 minutes of regulation.
Game Notes
- The Terriers outshot the Bison, 10-4, and held a 5-4 edge in corners.
- Baker played the first half to earn the win and improve to 6-3 on the year.
- Junior Kathleen Keegan came in at halftime and was not forced to make a save. Â
- Shumock finished conference play with six assists, which led the league.
- Junior Kara Enoch had a five-game point streak (3g, 3a) come to and end.
- For Bucknell, Emily Finn made five saves, including three within seconds of each other in the second half when freshman Ailsa Connolly and senior Allie Renzi teamed up on a rush.
- BU outscored its opponents 27-4 during conference play this season en route to the perfect 6-0 record.Â
