Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Terriers Defeated at No. 8 Northeastern, 6-3

BOSTON - Senior Savannah Newton notched her first collegiate goal as part of a two-point afternoon, but the Boston University women's ice hockey team dropped a 6-3 decision to No. 8 Northeastern on Saturday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena.

GOAL-BY-GOAL

  • Junior Mary Grace Kelley got the Terriers on the board just 5:15 into the proceedings. Freshman Jesse Compher won an offensive-zone faceoff and immediately got a shot on goal that Brittany Bugalski (27 saves) turned aside. The rebound popped right out to Kelley in front, however, and she cashed in for her first goal of the season. Compher earned her first collegiate point on the play.
  • Kasidy Anderson responded just before the halfway point of the opening stanza to tie the game, 1-1.
  • The Huskies extended their lead to 3-1 before Newton responded with her first collegiate goal. Newton's first shot towards goal was blocked, but she recovered the puck, created space for herself and ripped a shot that beat Bugalski to her stick side.
  • Northeastern regained its two-goal cushion with a marker late in the middle period.
  • Senior Victoria Bach used a terrific individual effort to bring BU back within one at 6:33 of the third period. She corralled the puck at the Northeastern blue line, dangled around a defender and then faked out Bugalski before tucking the puck inside the right post for her first goal of the season.
  • McKenna Brand reclaimed the Huskies' two-goal lead with a power-play strike at the 12:06 mark, and Northeastern iced the game with a late empty-netter.

NEWTON NOTCHES HER FIRST GOAL

  • Senior Savannah Newton entered Saturday's game with 17 career assists but no goals.
  • That changed with her strike in the second period.
  • She also assisted on Bach's goal to complete a two-point afternoon.
