ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Despite holding a 20-7 shot advantage, the Boston University women's soccer team saw its season come to an end in the Patriot League tournament semifinals as Bucknell scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute Friday night at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
How it Happened
- McKenna Doyle nearly put the Terriers on the board in the 12th minute, as she slipped past Bucknell's backline on a deep feed from Libby Closson, but just missed the frame on a touch shot inside the box.
- BU continued to apply heavy pressure in the attacking third in the 18th minute as Anna Heilferty weaved her way through the Bison defense before finding Kelly Harris on the right wing. Harris stroked a shot towards the inside post, but Bucknell's keeper made a diving save to keep the game scoreless.
- Doyle continued to wreak havoc on Bucknell's defense, getting three shots on goal off in an eight-minute span, included a header on a corner kick in the 33rd minute, though the Bison defense held.
- Amanda Fay made spectacular back-to-back saves in the final minutes of the half, punching out a Kendall Ham rip from 20 yards out before making a full-extension save on the ensuing shot.
- Anna Heilferty roped back-to-back shots off to start the second half, leading BU to get the first seven shots of the stanza off, though none landed on frame.
- On its lone shot of the second half, Bucknell's Alex Catanzarite netted the game-winning goal in the 87th minute, finding space before driving a shot towards the right post that Fay lunged for and got a piece of, but the ball trickled past the goal line.
Game Notes
- The Terriers held a 20-7 shot advantage and an 8-2 command in corner kicks. In the second half, BU dominated with an 8-1 lead in shots, but only one of those shots landed on goal.
- BU fell to Bucknell for the third straight time and the Bison ended the Terriers season in the Patriot League tournament for the second straight year.
- Friday's loss marks the first time in four years that BU will not play in the Patriot League championship game.
- Seniors Hannah Ciolek, Christina Wakefield, Hannah Wilcox, Erin Neville, Alivya Wimmer, Jesse Shreck, Jacki Carty and Rachel Bloznalis played their final game as a Terrier.
