PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Visiting Brown for its non-conference finale, the Boston University women's basketball team could not overcome a high-octane offense from the Bears as it suffered a 92-68 defeat Friday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Nia Irving notched her third double-double of the season, matching a season-high with 19 points to go with 11 rebounds.
How it Happened
- Irving tabbed back-to-back baskets to cut an early Brown lead to 6-4 at the six-minute mark, but the Bears responded with a 18-4 run to close out the quarter as the scoreboard held at 22-8.
- BU shifted the momentum to its side to start the second quarter, streaking a 6-3 run as Irving, Naiyah Thompson and Katie Nelson pulled the Terriers within striking distance, 25-14, with seven minutes left before the half.
- Irving and Payton Hauck combined for 13 of BU's 22 points in the second quarter, though Brown pulled ahead 47-30 heading into the break.
- After shooting 63.5 percent (10-for-16) from the floor to open the game, BU clamped down on Brown's offense as it held the Bears to a 40.0 percent (8-for-20) shooting clip in the second quarter.
- The Bears came storming out of the gates to start the third quarter, reeling off a 22-9 run en route to staking a 79-50 command at the end of the third stanza.
- Thompson and Kara Sheftic combined for nine of BU's 18 points in the fourth quarter, though Brown won handily, 92-68.
