Marist Runs Past Women's Basketball, 80-52

BOSTON – Returning to Case Gym for the first time in two weeks, the Boston University women's basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting first half from Marist as it fell, 80-52, Saturday afternoon at Case Gym.
 
How it Happened
  • Marist had the hot hand to open the game, shooting 50 percent from both the field (8-for-15) and from deep (2-for-4) in the first quarter to seize a 20-14 lead.
  • The Red Foxes stayed hot from deep, hitting back-to-back triples to open the second quarter as part of a 13-0 run to push the lead to 33-14.
  • Corrine Williams and Vanessa Edgehill tried to put BU back in the game as they combined for three straight triples, but Marist staked a 43-26 lead at the half.
  • BU cooled Marist to shoot just 33.3 percent (4-of-12) to start the second half and held the Red Foxes to a 37.5 (6-for-16) shooting clip in the third.
  • Niayah Thompson and Nia Irving led the Terriers with four points apiece in the frame, but Marist pushed ahead, 65-41, heading into the final quarter.
  • Marist outscored BU, 15-11, in the fourth quarter to snap the Terriers' three-game win streak.
Game Notes
  • Marist connected on five of its first seven 3-point attempts in the second quarter and hit on a blistering 64.3 percent (9-for-14) of its shots from the field in the second quarter.
  • BU was held to its lowest shooting percentage of the season (.288) of the season.
  • The Red Foxes scored 24 points off turnovers while BU recorded just four points off miscues.
  • For the third straight game, Irving led the Terriers in rebounding (7) and tied for the team lead in points (9).
  • Katie Nelson matched Irving with nine points, while Vanessa Edgehill followed with an eight-point effort off the bench.
  • Sophie Beaudry led the team with three assists and recorded a block for the fourth straight game.
