Saturday DH Shutout Victory Recap

EASTON, Pa. – Boosted by senior Makinna Akers' five strikeouts and junior Jilee Schanda's career-tying four hits, the Boston University softball team wrapped up the Patriot League weekend series at Lafayette with a dominating 6-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

Akers allowed just three hits to follow up on Saturday's 7-0 game-two shutout win to help the Terriers (17-24, 9-3 PL) blank a conference opponent in a three-game series for the first time since 2004 when BU swept UMBC without allowing a run. Freshman Kali Magane went 11 innings in the 1-0 game-one victory, giving BU its first three-game consecutive shutout streak since 2012 when the Terriers beat Rhode Island twice by identical scores of 8-0(5) and Harvard, 1-0.

  • Schanda led off the sixth with a double and eventually scored on an RBI grounder from sophomore Alex Heinen.
