NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – After stranding two runners in scoring position during the seventh inning of a 3-1 loss, the Boston University softball team bounced back with a 5-1 victory at Central Connecticut State for the doubleheader split on Thursday afternoon.
Freshman Kali Magane held the Blue Devils (11-24) to just three hits, as the Terriers (18-25) snapped an 10-game losing streak to non-conference opponents. Junior and reigning Patriot League Player of the Week Jilee Schanda earned her third homer of the year in the first contest, and senior Rachel Levine went 2-of-3 with two runs scored and an RBI to help lead the offense in the second matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Devils jumped out ahead in the bottom of the first with a walk and one-out two-run homer from Brittany McNulla against senior Makinna Akers.
- CCSU led off the fifth with a double and followed with a sacrifice bunt and fly out to push the lead to 3-0.
- After the Terriers were limited to just two hits through five innings of work, junior Jilee Schanda tried to provide a spark with a one-out solo homer.
- Senior Gabi Martinez and junior Alex Heinen then hit back-to-back singles, but CCSU got out of the jam by inducing a line out and fly out.
- Sophomores Emily Morrow and Madi Killebrew led off the seventh with a single and double, respectively, but the Terriers left both stranded with a pop up, line out and ground out.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Devils struck again in the first with a solo homer from Brittany Camara ... They would only manage two more hits though the rest of the game against freshman Kali Magane.
- Senior Rachel Levine started the third with a double and eventually scored on a two-out RBI single from sophomore Alex Heinen.
- Levine followed up in the fourth with an RBI single to plate junior Emma Wong, who was at third after an infield single and sophomore Madi Killebrew's double.
- Senior Moriah Connolly then doubled to left center to plate Killebrew.
- Junior Jilee Schanda recorded an RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth and sixth to push the Terriers' lead to 5-1.
- Magane retired the final eight CCSU hitters to collect her 10th win of the season.
NEXT UP
- The Terriers will return home to put their nine-game conference-win streak on the line against Colgate over the weekend.
- Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's third game will both start at 12 p.m.
- A pizza party will be held on Sunday to help commemorate Senior Day for Makinna Akers, Moriah Connolly, Rachel Levine and Gabi Martinez.
