Louisville, Ky. – Trailing 2-0 at the half, goals from
Kelly Park and
Kiana Ghamarifard weren't enough as the Terriers second-half comeback fell short, dropping a 3-2 decision at Louisville Friday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The Cardinals struck with two quick strikes within the first 22 minutes of play before Park slotted the Terriers' first goal of the season in the 62nd minute. Louisville reclaimed a two-goal command until Ghamarifard answered just 14 seconds later, though that would be the final goal of the match.
How it Happened
- Louisville pressed early with three corner kicks in a five-minute span, though the Terrier backline was up for the challenge as Libby Closson made an outstanding header on the third set piece to keep the scoreboard clean.
- The Cardinals attack broke through at the 18-minute mark, as a shot from just outside the right box was strong enough to deflect off Hannah Ciolek's hand and into the back of the net, and struck again four minutes later to hold a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
- After a stagnant first half on the attack for the Terriers, the tempo picked up in the second half as BU pressed deeper into Louisville's attacking third.
- Park cracked the Cardinals defense in the 62nd minute, tapping in a feed in from just outside the six-yard box off an assist from Christina Wakefield to put BU on the board.
- After Louisville went back up by two with 16 minutes to go, Ghamarifard headed in a corner kick from Erin Neville to put the Terriers back within one.
Game Notes
- Ciolek matched her career high with seven saves.
- Louisville held a 10-1 shot advantage at the half, though BU outshot the Cardinals 7-6 in the second stanza.
- The Cardinals also posted a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks for the first half, but BU limited Louisville to just two corner kicks for the remainder of the game.
